Meet Sara
Sara Presler, a Flagstaff attorney and law professor, was first elected Mayor in May 2008. Beholding to no special interests, she brings a fresh perspective and dynamic energy to the office, exploring ways to bring investment into the community that will help boost the local economy. Presler is an ardent supporter of clean industry and education, and works with nonprofit groups, business leaders, elected officials and others at all levels of government on initiatives to improve the quality of life for Flagstaff and northern Arizona.
Believing that local residents often have some of the best ideas, Mayor Presler makes it a priority to spend time out in the community, meeting with and listening to as many people as possible.
Born in Buffalo Grove, Illinois and raised in rural Arizona, Presler has called Flagstaff home since 1997. “My dad worked for International Business Machines (IBM), but as kids we called it I’ve Been Moved,” says Presler. Sara graduated Cum Laude, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in history and a minor in English from Northern Arizona University in 2002. After, earning her law degree from Michigan State University in 2005, she returned to Flagstaff to serve as a public defense attorney for Coconino County until 2008, defending the rights of children, the mentally ill, and low income persons. Mayor Presler also teaches Law & Ethics at Northern Arizona University.
