Presler listens and looks to the future

From AZ Daily Sun March 3, 2010

To the editor:

One of the greatest things I have noticed about Sara Presler is that she takes the time to listen before communicating her views on a subject. I have never observed her to be combative with anyone, and this is not to be confused with having a different opinion. I find that the intent of her decision-making process is for the betterment of all of Flagstaff, as opposed to a personal agenda. Mayor Presler is a strong leader — something this city has been lacking for many years.

Mayor Presler is to be commended for her work during these difficult economic times, while maintaining the safety of our community by not cutting any police or fire personnel. It is important to note that she is the only candidate who continually speaks about the future and doesn’t dwell on the past.

The most common term I heard during the forums from Kelty and Haughey was “collaborative” — a mayor who works collaboratively with the City Council. I, for one, do not object to 4-3 votes. Our community is made up of many diverse people with different opinions. Why would we want everyone coming to the table in complete agreement on every issue? This seems to be the desire of both Kelty and Haughey. This doesn’t indicate that the Council is representing all citizens of Flagstaff!

I am voting for Mayor Presler because her only special interest is the people of Flagstaff.

Presler different from ‘Joe-n-me’

From AZ Daily Sun March 3, 2010

To the editor

While watching the debate the other evening, I was wondering who was actually running. I know Sara Presler is running for re-election, but the only other candidate I saw was a person named “Joe-n-me”.

Mayor Presler came off as very professional and calm with a lot of foresight for the future. She also did not back down from the questions regarding the problems we will face with the budget issues.

Joe Haughey seemed to have trouble completing a sentence, and the only thing I heard from Kara Kelty was how much she supposedly did while on the City Council in the past. Those were better times, when we weren’t in a budget crisis mode. Let’s talk about now!

I’m still waiting to hear what Joe and Kara have to say about the future of Flagstaff. I also would like to know what is wrong with 4-to-3 votes? I think it is important to hear the thoughts of everyone on the Council regarding issues. I find it disgusting that some people want all Council decisions to be made in the “back room” so that everyone appears to “be on the same page”.

Sara Presler gets my vote because she’s not afraid to discuss issues in public, and she’s not afraid to take a stance, even though it may not be popular.
